What if Romeo and Juliet didn’t die, but grew up and lived happily ever after – or at least lived? Now 40-ish, with at least one of them in the grip of a mid-life crisis, they feel mocked by their teenage selves and haunted by being the poster couple for romantic love. So they decide to confront their struggles by putting on a performance about themselves, even though their therapist says it is a terrible idea.
Directed by Ben Duke, this duet blends dance, theatre and comedy to question our cultural obsession with youth, the myth of everlasting love and the expectations we place on marriage. “It’s not often you’re doubled over with laughter and wiping away tears of sadness during the same show” (The Scotsman).
